Über alles.

Another helping of the superb new German Uber campaign from director Nick Ball depicts a highly relatable scenario as a shopping trip gets out of hand after some impulse purchases. It prompts the very real question: would you rather use an Uber to get home with all the extra stuff or witness the breakdown of your entire relationship?

As with the first ad in this series, there is a powerful emphasis from director Ball and his team on the German tendency towards precision. Plate glass, steel and mirrors are used as a visual motif with the couple seen through the former and being reflected in the latter as they navigate the city on foot. It all contributes to a sense that the insensibility of their resistance to the advertised service is at odds with the efficiency that surrounds them, and promotes the idea that using Uber is a restoration of the natural order.
