Silencio
Hello, what's this? A U2 song that's leaner and meaner than we had any right to expect? Wonders, as it turns out, never cease. It reminds DAVID of the raw, guitar-led sound of R.E.M.'s fourteenth studio album 'Accelerate', where the band roared back to life with urgent riffs and plenty of fuel for the generator. 'Silencio' is—for the most part—a welcome return to form (your mileage may vary on Bono's vocal delivery). Though the track's only 2'35" long, there's enough time for directing duo Cliqua to explore the song's anti-authoritarian themes ("There are things you can get used to or not"). Filmed in Mexico City's Salón Los Ángeles dance hall, the promo features an ICE-like group of enforcers who drink to gee themselves up. When they lash out, Cliqua turn it into a strobe-lit dance of chaos and resistance.
