Instant insights.
A couple of weeks ago, DAVID said he was keen to see a longer piece about the Polaroid 20×24 camera. Cue 'The World's Biggest Instant Camera Meets Nine Major Artists', again directed by Tobias Perse and Alex Marashian, but with a much larger canvas to work with. When so many people want to get their mitts on the ginormous camera, it pays to go long. Yes, nineteen minutes is a hefty time investment, but Perse and Marashian make it worth your while. They carry over the light touch that made 'Meet The World's Largest Instant Camera' such a treat, but it's the infectious desire to show how different artists use the 20x24 camera that sweeps you along. It feels like everyone's new favourite toy’s been unboxed, and everyone knows that adults need playtime as much as children. You can tell how serious Urs Fischer, Piero Golia, Carsten Höller, Ibrahim Mahama, Mariko Mori, Jim Shaw, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Lee Ufan, and Liu Wei are about the craft, but warm, curiosity, and humour also shine through... and that goes for the brand, too. We love the moment when Mahama asks what the red button on the camera does. "The red button doesn't actually do anything," is the answer.
