Suburban Rhapsody

When we announced Frances O'Sullivan's arrival at Anonymous Content, we said it was going to be exciting to see the work she makes... and we've already been proven right about that. This ad for Sydney Sweeney's fashion brand Syrn is sensational - the aesthetic is stunning, and it is also sexy, cheeky and fun. Oh, and it's funny.

It is difficult to identify precisely the difference made by having a female director who works with a largely female team to this kind of content, but there is a discernable sense that the absence of the male gaze is critical. O'Sullivan's take on sexiness is entirely inclusive and puts the spotlight on female empowerment. And she appears to achieve this with such an instinctive grasp that she makes it look easy.

Every detail is beautiful with the director receiving fantastic support from her production designer and her cinematographer to deliver a beautiful take on 1950s chintz, and coaxing a burlesque-tinged performance from her star. Just fabulous.
