"Katz's Deli with New York Nico!"

26 September 2026

3 mins

Soda stream of consciousness.

Ben Stiller has always been about the comedy of awkwardness, and here, alongside director Nicolas Heller, Stiller maxes the awkwardness to promote his own brand of soda which is being stocked at Katz's – one of New York's most famous delis. Heller proves to be an interesting foil as he is an extremely naturalistic performer and creates the impression that everything we are watching is unscripted.

Three minutes allows for a lot of awkwardness and it does drag on a little, but you are unlikely to forget the advertising proposition, and if you're in the neighbourhood, you might as well pop in and give this stuff a try. It can't do any harm for the featured deli either, not that we can imagine they are in want of trade.

There are cat puns aplenty as Heller does his best to get under Stiller's skin, and, as was the case when the American comedy actor appeared in the British TV series 'Extras', he proves very good at playing a difficult version of himself (though from what DAVID has heard, this is not a massive stretch from the truth!)
