No Touch (ft. Sue Tompkins)

Sleaford Mods become Dartford Mods in the music video for 'No Touch', the latest track from 'The Demise of Planet X'. Shot by Dartford-born-and-bred director Andrea Arnold, the promo features bandmates Jason Williamson, Andrew Fearn, guest vocalist Sue Tompkins of Life Without Buildings fame, and a handful of residents keen to know what all the fuss is about.

It's hard not to play a game of spot the Union Jack as Arnold's camera roves around Temple Hill Square, but no one's here to start trouble on that front. Instead, Williamson and Tompkins touch on drug use ("I'm down in Asda absolutely off my face"), despondency ("Live like a suicide/Into the wheels of machinery I play"), and a season of discontent ("Why can't I get it right? Like the dead leaves all fall down").

In spite of these heavy themes, Arnold's promo is light on its feet. Look at the way Tompkins hops and skips across the grass before the sun goes down, or how a Pomeranian threatens to steal everyone's thunder. It's grim out there, but not bereft of hope.
