"Dads at Pub"

Pint-sized pub-goers.

Director and recent podcast guest Florence Poppy Deary is interested in what new dads talk about over a pint. Her new animated short film centres around three punch-drunk fathers (voiced by Paddy Young, Ed Night, and Freddie Meredith), unsure what to talk about now they're parents, not university students. You can tell they're not ready to compare and contrast local nurseries.

These are men of simple pleasures, however, and the idea of baby's first pint proves irresistible. How about a maiden tequila slammer, Lost Mary, or Marlboro Light? Now that the floodgates are open, each milestone becomes progressively darker and sleazier, until one dad crosses an unexpected line... and it's surprisingly not "baby's first interaction with sex worker".

Reminiscent of BBC Three's 'Monkey Dust' at its scuzzy best, Deary's film also reminds us that new dads need to bond as well. Even if they look and sound like the most immature parents on the planet ('Legend' cap alert), humour helps this new reality make sense—and hints at the ways they intend to look after themselves so they can witness the kids' real milestones as they grow up.
