Crafty so-and-so.
The song in this Royal Bank of Canada commercial sounds a lot like 'Baddest Ruffest' by Backyard Dog. It soundtracked Coca-Cola's memorable 'Supersub' ad in 2002, and we cannot help but think Stylo G and Jacob Plant took a leaf out of Backyard Dog's book for 'Bike Engine'. Before DAVID goes too far down the electronic music rabbit hole, what else makes RBC's 'Crochet' stand out? Well, for starters, the animation and visual effects are top-notch: colourful, textured, and witty to boot. Coupled with the protagonist's focused yet cheery flow, the ad dares to make a budget for one's hobby close to palatable. It also helps when a free iPad's up for grabs, but we cannot help but think some viewers would prefer a crocheted toupee or refrigerator. Regardless, it's a stitch-up in the best possible way from director Mark Zibert.
