Lost Boys

In 2024, HBO released 'Ren Faire', a three-part documentary series about the Texas Renaissance Festival and its chain of command. Two years later, director Lance Oppenheim returns to the world of live-action role-play (LARP), with Pablo Rochat on board for good measure. Instead of a documentary, we have a music video for 'Lost Boys' by Phoebe Bridgers.

She plays the elf queen with an army of larpers under her control. Where she goes, they go, and for good reason—she has powers most renaissance faire attendees can only dream of. If a sushi chef looks at her guys the wrong way, for example, he gets the old fish head treatment. She can also help a gas station attendant escape the shift life once and for all.

Larpers and medieval re-enactors have always been easy targets, but Bridgers, Oppenheim, and Rochat are way above cheap shots. The song offers LARP a free hug and means it, while a couple of video game segments pay due reverence to the medium (we hope Bridgers releases the chiptune remix in full).
