My Mess
PRETTYBIRD's Femi Ladi directs a powerful, well-cast promo for Myles Smith about men's mental health. Irish actor Patrick Martins plays a man unable to share how he feels, be it in person or on paper. Not only does he struggle to let it out, but also he struggles to let people in—the moment he recoils from his girlfriend's touch is hard to watch. Whether it's a cup of tea that overflows or the party that goes on around him like he’s not there, it’s clear how disconnected he is. The more words scored out and pages scrunched up, the less likely any sort of recovery seems. The good news is that Smith's written the words he needs to hear... and he happens to have been invited to the same party. Lyrics like "It's a burden, it's a cloud/And it always seems to follow me around" and "I hate the way that I'm still like this/I’m still learning to walk on my own" proves he's not alone, with the hope that viewers in a similar spot know it, too. The result bodes well for Smith's debut album and the faith fans can put in him.
