Superstar

Tonight's the night for mustbejohn. So long as the alt-pop star sells enough tickets (five hundred quid's worth, in fact), he'll be on the fast track to superstardom. The venue owner thinks he's full of shit, but the young man's got no time for naysayers... and, er, no time to sell that many tickets.

Shot on 16mm by directors Matt Chandler and Will Sharp and DP Kai-Yan Lei, 'Superstar' follows mustbejohn's desperate attempt to both advertise and sell out the gig in one chutzpah-filled afternoon. One passerby shows a sliver of interest in the event, but when you're forced to hijack a busker's spot then approach someone you already owe money to, you can guarantee the fear's gonna take hold.

It's nowhere near as stressful as, say, 'Uncut Gems' or 'Marty Supreme', but there is a sweaty, Hail Mary quality to the promo that's easy to get hooked on. Even when things start to look up for the guy, he still manages to press the self-sabotage button. It's worth the watch for mustbejohn's superstar crooner shirt alone.
