Maltesers
"Put on a Happy Face"

90s

Grin it to win it.
As Maltesers turns ninety, agency Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO and director Ally Pankiw ('Feel Good', 'I Used To Be Funny') deliver a cheeky and celebratory film about sisterhood. Part historical romp, part observational comedy, all handled with the lightest of touches by Pankiw, this is one of those occasions where ninety seconds zip by and leave you hungry for more. The cast put up with all manner of bullshit over the decades, whether they're burnt at the stake, strangled by corsets, stuck in the queue for the toilet, or taught how the female reproductive system works (who knew that the uterus, oviducts, ovaries, cervix, and vagina "travel around"?) It helps, therefore, to sing 'Put On a Happy Face' from 'Bye Bye Birdie'. Each scene is resolved with oodles of charm, sass, and a handful of Maltesers, of course. From the sudden downpour that puts out the fire to the passer-by who stops to help a mum carry her buggy up a flight of stairs, the brand reaffirms its commitment to light relief whenever and wherever its needed.
