Who better to promote Lego's new 'Donkey Kong' set than a double 'DK' world champion? American Steve Wiebe, who posted bonkers scores of 1,006,600 and 1,064,500 over the years, stars in a toy commercial that—for the most part—plays like a psychological thriller, as if the former King of Kong is haunted by Nintendo's great ape.

Alone in the house, Wiebe sees an all-too-familiar barrel roll across the floor and an even more recognisable shadow loom like an animal that's broken out of its 8-bit cage. He's also spooked by music and sound effects that no longer seem playful like they did in the arcade (more like threats to his fragile sanity).

Has Lego gone off the deep end? Of course not—this is just a fun, well-observed twist on the life of a competitive gamer that's bound to tickle older fans. It helps that Wiebe is also a good sport, plus he seems to dig Lego's take on the legendary arcade cabinet. Brilliant fan service that's also a bit, well, bananas.
