La Famiglia Rana

"Relax, Rosa"

Deceit at the table.

A man serves up a delicious lie in the latest La Famiglia Rana commercial. In keeping with an idea established in their previous work, 'Relax, Rosa' is all about trickery at teatime. Not only has the protagonist run his girlfriend a bath, he's also got dinner taken care of. OK, the brand and the ovenhave got dinner taken care of—if he makes all the right noises, she’ll be none the wiser.

Thus, the man becomes more foley artist than chef as he pretends to chop, stir, grind, blend, and more while Rosa listens in the tub. He's got a real ear for detail—even the best chefs drop a utensil every now and then. Add a couple of specks of flour on his face, lend more than enough credibility to his ruse. Say what you will about him, he commits to the bit.

The brand, meanwhile, commits to ingredients and textures that impress anyone who tucks in (they might even ask where you got the recipe). We always knew this campaign had potential, and Jim Gilchrist has helped the brand fulfil it with a, er, sound execution.

This work represents a significant upgrade for Rana, as the execution makes room for the food itself to shine, and the performances are properly charming.

It seems probable that this approach will lead to a real spike in sales... so much so that DAVID is off to the supermarket to stock up, so he can sell the stuff on the black market when it runs out.
