"Billy Bass Goes To The River"

Careful what you wish for.

This entertaining TV spot for Jeep Cherokee cleverly subverts an advertising trope to provide some very unexpected comedy. Those watching this for the first time during Sunday night's Super Bowl are going to be pleasantly surprised at its comic twist. It comes when father indulges his son's wish to set free a Billy Bass fish plaintively singing 'Take Me to the River'.

It's fair to say that it doesn't go entirely to plan. Nature takes its course in a most unpleasant way when the aforementioned fish is attacked by a passing Grizzly bear that mistakes it for a real salmon. That isn't the end of the trials and tribulations faced by the toy and it's a reminder that while owners of the advertised vehicle are perfectly safe whilst inside it, it's an entirely different story once they climb out of their car.

O Positive's Jim Jenkins conceals the twist with aplomb by amping the happy families vibe right up until everything goes south, ensuring that the audience will be genuinely caught offguard and find it all the more funny. Excellent work.
