There's Gary!

Anyone who's played 'Fallout 3' remembers Gary… or Gary's many, many clones, that is. One of the game’s strangest detours took players into an underground vault populated by deranged experiments who can only say one word: "Gary." It's a brilliant bit of surreal sci-fi horror, and we like to think GrubHub are fans of it, too.

The brand's new commercial—directed by the in-form Zach Tavel—is also alive with the sound of Gary, though the name's uttered by neighbours, workmen, random road users, and the odd pigeon instead of clones. They all want to be Gary's best friend, as food shared is food enhanced, right? From the protagonist's point of view, everyone's much too friendly for comfort.

When Tavel's camera lingers on some of them, sweat glistens in the hot sun and characters grin like hungry Cheshire Cats. In the Blinkink director's capable hands, the brand's 'Gold Days of Grubhub+' event takes on an offbeat life of its own—those who tune into its strange, sun-kissed frequency now feel like they have an edge over everyone else come breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
