Hit the Wall

Gracie Abrams—soon to star in Halina Reijn's 'Please'—gets an A24-esque promo courtesy of Renell Medrano. Informed by Abrams's pensive and perturbed lyrics ("I'm a crack in the pavement, I'm a slipknot/I'm afraid that my fortress is a glass box"), Medrano and set designer Patience Harding deliver a tactile tour of her state of mind.

Whether it's the glass box, a Rorschach test, or doors that lead to further spaces shaped by dream logic, the whole promo speaks her language and riffs off it. The world crafted by Medrano and her crew also takes it cues from a lyric that proves Abrams is a diehard Joni Mitchell fan: "'A Case of You' playing in the hallway/Hallucinations that I downplay."
