Turn for the worse.

Adam Woodyatt has been Mr Consistent for EastEnders for over forty years. As Ian Beale, Woodyatt's seen Walford change forever many, many times before—and featured in one or two promos for good measure. The latest revolves around Beale, ex-wife-number-one Cindy (Michelle Collins), Denise Fox (Diane Parish), Max Branning (Jake Wood), and George Knight (Colin Salmon)... and we mean revolves around.

To the sound of 'Changes' by David Bowie and an inauspicious tick of the Queen Vic clock, the background is turned upside down one stroke at a time while the five pivotal characters are locked in place. It's a neat trick that, coupled with Bowie's exemplary track, makes even non-soap opera fans sit up and pay attention. They might also wonder why people still live in Albert Square after so many murders, fires, divorces, et cetera.
