Too Polite

A commercial or music video is off to a good start if it reminds DAVID of 'A Bit of Fry and Laurie'. In a bid to make rap more respectful, Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie performed 'Be Nice', a song about what a "good-ass mother-liker" does to make the world a better place ("Neighbours come calling, holding out a cup/ So I get out the sugar and I fill it right up"). Cut from the same cloth is TikTok rapper Eric, who's "too polite" to lash out at rude sorts.

The lyrics are an absolute scream as Eric reels off all the things a proper rapper's meant to do when mugged off ("I could get couple of my friends to slowly take out their guns... /Or I could take your girlfriend or your boyfriend back with me for some fun"). Eric even hesitates before he launches into each verse, as if it's rude to even contemplate such acts.

Eric's mindset is catnip for director Katie S, who imagines what it would be like if the rapper trained to become a touch more assertive… with the help of his mum, a teddy bear, and some twigs (it's been a while since a training montage tickled us as much). Underestimate this polite young man at your peril.
