Avoid the cruelty of nightlife.

Billy Swan's version of Elvis Presley's 'Don't Be Cruel' is the perfect musical accompaniment to this extraordinary glimpse at the nightlife you can avoid thanks to the heroism of Doordash's delivery crew. Because director Nick Ball is also named as music supervisor, DAVID has reason to believe that the track choice was central to his thinking right from the get go.

Kudos to the client for backing this approach, and to the agency for selling it, as that can't have been straightforward. It is a long, languid mystery before the reveal, and there is so much concern about attention span these days that this is both bold and innovative. And, that's rather the point, because the longer the build-up, the bigger the impact of the reveal. This is a film that makes the viewer work a little to divine its meaning... something that we don't see often enough.

Hats off to the two casting companies who helped director Ball to find his players. They are such a perfectly curated collection of humans that you can tell that everyone responsible has gone above and beyond to help him find exactly the people he wanted, and this pays off too. The use of slow motion combines with the ambiguity of the looks that are exchanged to bind the viewer to the screen and ensure they are fully invested to hear its messaging. Absolutely brilliant work from a director at the top of his game.
