Authenticity over artificiality.
Vivian Jenna Wilson has stated publicly that she no longer wants to be related to her biological father, Elon Musk. You can't blame her... for his part, Musk has said that his child had effectively been “killed by the woke mind virus”. In this marvellous ad for Desigual, Wilson takes aim at Musk by ridiculing his peculiar certainty that the artificial is always preferable to the authentic. His core message is one of complete capitulation to the idea that our species will be superseded by an intelligence of our own manufacture... and Wilson is having none of it. Directors PSG ramp up the drama while allowing Wilson to play her cards close to her chest. There is nothing overt about this messaging but the authors of it (and Wilson herself) are shrewd enough to know how it will be interpreted and will be happy to let the world make up its own mind. The snappy visual style is as confrontational as the relationship between the estranged pair and the effect is mesmerising. DAVID editor Jason Stone is the proud father of a trans child and cannot state loudly enough how disgusting it is for Musk to speak of his daughter as having died because she transitioned. Quite apart from the callousness of his positioning, it is downright dangerous. Sadly, there is a high incidence of suicide among those wanting to transition who are unsupported by their families and their communities and Musk uses language likely to exacerbate this problem, and he deserves all the opprobrium in the world for the harm he does.
