Thunder Strike

When an Art Deco theatre lures a couple off the street with the sound of 'Thunder Strike' by Corella, promo director Giles Edward-N puts on a hell of a show. The soundtrack plays its part, with a real taut swagger of a riff at its core, but it's the visuals that make you walk in off the street and refuse to leave.

Walls stretch and skylights contort as the couple explore an uncanny theatre like no other. The male character seems unaffected by the venue's weird energy, but the female lead is another story. Compelled to dance by forces unknown (or a need to lose control at long last), she leaves a funky 'trail' of movement that evokes digital artifacts or even cursor lag.

Somehow, Edward-N and company make each remnant look tactile, as if viewers can reach out and touch them. It helps that they have such a strong lead performance to work from, too, with the woman's physicality matched by pure emotion. The result is a trip to the theatre neither she, nor Corella fans, will forget in a hurry.
