Elevated horror.
The best remedy for a bad day is a good night's sleep. Any bed or mattress brand can tell us that, but Casper tells it in a way that’s chock-full of charisma and a keen awareness of what consumers hope to avoid when they get up and leave the house. In DAVID's favourite 'Goodnight, Day' spot, the rule of three is used to push a woman in a lift to her absolute limit. There's the Terminator-esque food delivery driver who walks backwards into the lift, bag and all; the bloke who sneezes like a man who threw out all his face masks after the pandemic was declared over; then the lift itself breaks down, complete with murder-room-red emergency light. We feel her pain, but also cannot help but laugh at her ordeal (the slow, detached walk of the biker is a masterstroke). As much as the brand would like to intervene early on, it does its best work in the bedroom. Fast asleep on her Snow Tech mattress that "keeps you cool no matter", the shot encapsulates the great reset customers crave after a long hard day. It's tricky to escalate and deescalate so much in 30", but director Jeff Low does it in a way that makes a powerful, relatable case for the product.
