Sun Has Set
Some of the best 'pursuer' characters in pop culture include the T-800 from 'The Terminator', Nemesis from 'Resident Evil 3', and the curse from 'It Follows'. Thanks to Jake Erland's promo for 'Sun Has Set', we can now add Beabadoobee to the list. Shot from a first-person point of view, the audience cannot escape Bea Kristi if it tried. Even when Erland cuts away from her, she's back in the blink of an eye and right up in our grill. What starts as a row in a motel room morphs into a tumble off the balcony, a golf club to the windscreen, and a chase through the woods that evokes 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre' or any other rural slasher film that takes your fancy (the sheriff's car is a lovely touch). The whole aesthetic suits Beabadoobee's grungy, rock salt shaker of a track. As she sinks her teeth into lyrics like "When I say, "We'll never be friends"/I mean, we'll never pretend" and "Don't be so fake and affected", her badassery makes us want to hunt down an early copy of her fourth album... just like she hunts down her quarry.
