Viper (feat. Saskia

One of three shorts for a trio of tracks from Bicep, 'Viper' literally revolves around a free party coming to its giddying peak. The sound is a leap forward for the electronic duo whose new studio has enabled them to transform their recording process; and this collaboration with producer Clark has resulted in a tight, razor-sharp beat underpinning chaotic euphoria. Vocals from Saskia soar over everything.

The film captures this beautifully. Using a bullet-time rig, Ryan Doubiago conveys the experience of melding into music en masse as time simultaneously freezes, slides and jolts; the cameras circling a vortex of limbs and chemically enhanced minds. It reminds us, too, that free parties are to a new generation what the rave scene was in the early '90s before it was tamed and monetised. All the same, this sounds like a classic anthem from back in the day rather than a 21st century groundbreaker, and that gives this reviewer a sense of slightly cosy nostalgia. Wonder if the ducks got their glow sticks out?
