You've got to move it, move it!
The real star of this splendid advocacy for movement made by director Rob Leggatt on behalf of ASICS is Sigourney Weaver, who provides the nature-documentary-style voiceover. It is a study of inertia as the lives of three humans who have all but given up moving are put under the microscope. The forensic examination of their habits is designed to be relatable in an uncomfortable way, and Leggatt is unrelenting in his subtle criticism of what we have become. The indolence of the modern age is not excused and the condemnation is as harsh as it needs to be... especially as we discover that the proposed salvation: just fifteen minutes of movement from time to time is within reach of almost everyone. The opening sequence is powerful too. It is essentially a fast-flowing and humorous montage showing how we got to where we are today. The relentlessness sits in sharp contrast to the lack of dynamism that it builds towards and the tonal shift as we learn about Janet—stuck hopelessly in front of endless Zoom meetings—could not be greater. Sigourney Weaver really takes over from that point, adding gravitas to the message but keeping within the humorous tramlines set out by the director. ASICS become the sponsors of movement. It's cute positioning for the brand, as there's a whole heap of people who may feel inspired to move just a little more after watching this.
