The rights of those born in the USA.
One of the great cultural tragedies of the last few years has been witnessing the conservatives in America laying claim to the work of artists who despise them. No one has been angrier about this than Bruce Springsteen - who stands alongside Woody Guthrie as a chronicler of blue collar struggles in the United States. As his country lurches from one Trump-generated crisis to the next, the most consistent ideology of the Trump administration is cruelty. The way that the president has used ICE as his personal stormtroopers, frequently sending them in like some modern day Gestapo to disrupting the lives of those simply trying to get by in their adopted homeland has been nothing short of barbaric. Amidst all of this, the Trump regime has also sought to step around the US constitution which clearly states that anyone born in the USA has a right to stay there. The ACLU and Bruce Springsteen are pushing back, using the anthemic 'Born in the USA' to remind the country of this core principle. While pretending to revere the constitution, it has clearly been Trump's aim to undermine the constitution so his efforts to circumvent one of its tents isn't just serious in its own right, it's a portent of what lies ahead if those who oppose him don't get their act together. Awareness raising is a good first step to achieving this, and perhaps it will contribute to the much needed effort to thwart the ever-growing tyranny.
