"GREAT Britain: The Movie"

30 January 2025

4 mins 08s

Lights, Britannia, action.

The phrase "all rights reserved" appears a lot in this ace commercial for Visit Britain. That's because it uses clips from fifteen, count 'em, fifteen movies and television programmes filmed in the United Kingdom over the years. Now that the lawyers are happy, let's get stuck into a film chock-full of action, comedy, romance, and... sightseeing.

In a real feat of editing and visual effects jiggery-pokery, tourists slot into scenes from the likes of 'Bridgerton', 'Spider-Man: Far from Home', 'House of the Dragon', and 'Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One' (the latter gets a hefty amount of screen time, it must be said—maybe this adds to the film's middling box office somehow).

The twist is that the cast cares more about what they can do and see on these shores than what Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise), Mary Poppins (Emily Blunt), Spider-Man (Tom Holland), and others are up to. It's not a rejection of Hollywood by any stretch—just a reminder that Britain itself has serious star power.
