"Romance’d Enough"

16 September 2025

60s

Romcoms take the biscuit... and the chicken wings.

Jude Law takes the opportunity to send up his role as a 21st century matinee idol in this winning ad for Uber Eats that has the film star proving irresistible to one and all... well, almost. Director David Shane has a perfect measure of scripts like this, and - as always - he delivers... assisted greatly on this occasion by all of his players (including Jude Law himself who injects his performance with a wistfulness that stops it edging it into arrogance); editor Paul Watts and composer Phil Kay, both of who make essential contributions.

Most of the fun is at the expense of the romcoms which have actually formed a relatively minor part of Law's career. He's nonetheless a great choice for this as he clearly has the kind of self-awareness that gives Shane something to work with. Neither will Law care whether parodying the genre will mean he isn't sent those kinds of scrips any more... indeed, DAVID suspects he would regard that as a welcome development.

The inclusion of a celebrity with Jude Law's heft ensure that this will gain attention... the skills of David Shane and the people who helped him make it ensures that the attention pays off.
