Catch you on the flip side.
Twix’s new slogan is not "Two is better than one", but "Two is more than one". It makes sense in a mad way, enough to make you stroke your chin and say: "Go on." Now the brand needs a commercial that kicks the idea into overdrive… and this is where Vedran Rupic, director of KFC's 'Believe in Gravy' ad, comes in. Fasten your seatbelts, people—this one's a doozy. In a nod to any rural car chase scene you care to mention (‘Bullitt' and ‘Drive’ spring to mind), a man is forced to put the pedal to the metal when he clocks someone in the rear-view mirror. With his long hair and knitted gold shirt, he suits the surf rock soundtrack to a tee. All that's left to do is stay calm and, er, drive off the road and careen down a hill. Before anyone calls the emergency services, Rupic reveals the upturned car is two cars in one. The upside-down driver then drops a Twix to his exact double (only he's got a red shirt on instead—a cute nod to the brand's colour scheme). When you watch the ad back, you realise how well each shot is framed, just to keep the roof out of sight and out of mind. The custom car to end all custom cars is a feat of practical and visual effects (Untold Studios somehow make the physics of the machine work). From concept to execution and product integration, it's one to remember, or should that be, er, two to remember?
