"Wedding Day"

14 November 2025

60s

The big day.

Today should be the happiest day of Rebecca's life. She's about to tie the knot surrounded by friends and family, only her dad, Michael, is nowhere to be found. No need to panic, right? He must be stuck in traffic or got ketchup on his shirt. He'll be there before she knows it. Cut to Michael in his car, however, and he's not dressed for a wedding. Something's wrong… very wrong.

As Rebecca jokes with her bridesmaids and accepts her brother's heartfelt compliments, Michael sits in the car with pen and paper in hand. He's not cutting the father of the bride speech fine—he's writing his final goodbye. For too many people with suicidal thoughts, a note is the last thing they share with the world. Michael, at least, calls the Samaritans in the nick of time.

The chat that follows not only saves Michael’s life, but changes our whole understanding of the ad’s chronology. The man who shows up at the church is older, greyer, and in a much better place. If this had all happened on the same day, it would have been too big a leap of narrative faith. Instead, viewers are left in no doubt that the advertised charity saves present and future selves when it has the chance.
