The Honesty Box

Would I lie to you?

Dating apps have a well-earned reputation for fibs, filters, and falsehoods. For every honest John or Joanne, there’s a dozen dishonest Daniels or Danielles. To counteract this, E4 has commissioned 'The Honesty Box', a dating show that rewards transparency and sincerity—concepts foreign to everyone in this musical teaser directed by Jeff Low.

There's Greg, the cyclist who only pretends to like bikes because of a driving ban; Emma, the gym bunny who keeps a metric ton of crippling daddy issues close to her toned chest; and Henry, the stay-at-home lover who must stay at home on account of his electronic tag. Chuck in toxic narcissists, emotionally immature polyamorists, controlling bowlers, et cetera, and you have one crooked choir.

Sure enough, the spot ends with a proper lyrical flourish before the cast is boxed up for good. Not only does it set the tone for the programme, but it also skewers modern dating with a song that doesn't outstay its welcome... unlike those who lie to get laid, so to speak.
