Peek performance.
Who buys electric vehicles? Every curtain twitcher in this Skoda Elroq commercial thinks they know the answer. They must be members of a cult, right? Or cryptocurrency nuts, perhaps. Tree huggers, Millennials, sandal wearers… who else would install a charger in a cul-de-sac like this? All the cast needs to do now is wait for the occupants to get out and confirm those suspicions. Whoever they are, the whole neighbourhood wants a piece of them. They approach the newcomers like a horde of middle-class zombies or a nosy WhatsApp group made flesh (we like how one of them wears a 'Game Over' T-shirt, as if he knows the street's about to go down the pan). When the car doors open, however, there's nary a sandal or kale leaf to be seen. Skoda's not the first brand to wage war on preconceptions about electric vehicles (Kia went for the Q&A approach in 2022, for example). The Swedes, on the other hand, use gentle comedy and (t)witchcraft to remove as much stigma around the technology as possible. That way, neighbours can focus on issues that matter, like when the bins are due to be collected.
