Welcome to San Vansterdam.
The long-awaited fourth instalment of EA's 'Skate' series (imaginatively titled 'Skate') takes place in the fictional burg of San Vansterdam, gaming’s answer to Malmö and other skateboard-friendly cities. For those wary of Steam Early Access, directors Ed Kaye and Alex Mavor, better known as The Sacred Egg, have put on a live-action tour that'll knock your skate socks off. Since this is no run-of-the-mill city, The Sacred Egg are free to mess about with physics, architecture, object permanence, and the human anatomy. They have tremendous fun with the latter, it must be said, as a string of nasty injuries like a broken finger and detached front teeth are fixed through some gnarly digital jiggery-pokery. The longer viewers spend in San Vansterdam, the more ramps fall out of the sky, the more pedestrians and security guards hop on board, and the less, ahem, grounded the city becomes. Stay tuned for the lofty finale to see what we mean, complete with what we hope is a tongue-in-cheek "do not attempt" warning.
