Here, but there.
Charities Spark 15, RAAH, and Choose Love team up to present 'In-Between', a pensive short film directed by Renee Maria Osubu that flits between Malta and Ethiopia (Kenya stands in for the east African country). Don't let 'Moon Music' by Coldplay and Jon Hopkins put you off—what's sung matters little compared to what's said. In the words of protagonist Omar, "migration and movement of people is not something new", so why do he and others like him get such short shrift in 2025? Despite the cramped conditions, poor hygiene, and samey food, Omar has come out the other side and now helps fellow migrants do the same. The pain is real (Osubu makes sure that comes across loud and clear) but so is hope. Of course, Malta's only half of Omar's story. He left Ethiopia, but also stayed—that is the in-between of the title and why Osubu takes such care with her protagonist's dual life. The medium of film allows Omar to travel back and forth, at least.
