People Watching
Andrew Scott uses some of that leftover 'All of Us Strangers' energy in the promo for 'People Watching', Sam Fender's grief-stricken comeback single. Shot in Long Beach, California, the film revolves around Scott's mercurial drifter—a man desperate for a fix of any kind. Drink, drugs, physical contact... whatever gets him through the day and night. Whether it's a boozy rave in a bathroom or a tender dance with a waitress, each encounter is a chance for Scott’s character to get away from it all ("Gives me a break from feeling alone/Gives me a moment out of the ego"). Is it enough? Is any of it enough? Not even close when you realise who he lost along the way. Director Stuart McIntyre and DP Max Goldman's visuals walk in tandem with Fender's lyrics: pained, beautiful insights into the death of his late friend and mentor Annie Orwin ("Oh, I fear for this crippled island and the turmoil of the times/And I'll hold you in my heart 'til the day I die"). The man from North Shields sure knows how to put pain to paper.
