SAFE!

"Limbo"

7 January 2025

2 mins 56s

Caught in a trap.

No one should have to wait for justice. The young woman in this SAFE! commercial is stuck in limbo, however, thanks to a series of delays in the criminal justice system. The effect on Jessica, the teenage victim of a sexual offence, is palpable, while her assailant is free to go about his life as normal. Where, the charity asks, is the sense in that?

Imogen Harrison's pensive, humanistic direction makes the moment when another delay threatens to break Jessica for good even harder to take. As the camera pulls away in reluctant fashion, supers reveal that "child victims of sexual crime can wait up to five years to see their case tried in court". Change, therefore, is long overdue.
