Analogue magic.

There is astonishing beauty in this indie style commercial for Petro-Canada which centres on a precious soft toy dropped by a little girl. As her mother consoles her with the thought that her faithful companion may have been needed by another child in need of comfort, we see that the little fella has been picked up by a kindly truck driver. You don't need to have seen too many sentimental TV spots to guess what happens next, but that doesn't detract from its sweetness.

What really shines through though is the value of the analogue approach adopted by directing team Jon & Torey. They have given this piece the feel of an indie film that wins the hearts of festival goers and ends up with the audience award ahead of the multi-million pound features competing for the same prize. At a moment when a lot of filmmakers are intimidated by the threat of AI, it is incredibly refreshing to enjoy a film which demonstrates the unbridled magic of imperfection... hair in the gate and all.
