They Left Me With a Gun
The start of this Paris Texas promo reminds DAVID of a scene in 'Garth Marenghi's Darkplace' where Dr Lucien Sanchez (Matt Berry) is forced to run away from a sentient pistol. Not only is the Glock in Dan Streit’s promo able to fly, but it also talks to Paris Texas members Louie Pastel and Felix in an English accent. It encourages them to embark on a crime spree, and the arrangement works an absolute treat. The film is often shot, if you'll pardon the pun, from a first-person point of view like a video game, or becomes a lo-fi blur of cash and startled victims. When the protagonists have made enough money for one day, thank you very much, they bin the gun like it's a piece of trash. Of course, hell hath no fury like a handgun scorned. The insulted pistol takes its revenge, but not before a "Is that a gun in your pocket, or are you just pleased to see me?" gag that is stupid and genius in equal measure. Tune into its strange frequency and there is much to enjoy—perhaps even adore.
