"Happy Christmassacre"

Happy hemorrhage!

This People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals commercial is redder than Rudolph's nose with a dollop of cranberry sauce on it. The charity claims over a hundred and eighty million animals will be slaughtered in the run-up to Christmas—suffice to say, it's the least wonderful time of year for PETA. There will be blood, not least in this 120" splatter flick.

Director David Shane takes his time, however—no need to spill it right away. All the cast does is tuck into Christmas lunch (all the food on set is vegan, we understand), chew over the best television show in years once you get to season three, and stomach the traditional "I'm not on social media" update. Only when normality's been established does the red stuff start to flow.

Any fake blood not used at Halloween is used here. The cast are caked in no time, but does interrupt the, er, flow of conversation? Here's what the kids have to say: "When did you guys make your Christmas lists?" "About a week before". We would say no one bats an eyelid, but the spray does test some actors’ composure. They pass with flying colours, though… mostly shades of red.
