Energy crisis.
Fans of 'Ghost in the Machine', the 1993 schlocker about a serial killer who possesses household appliances, will appreciate this OVO Energy commercial from agency Saatchi & Saatchi and directors Réalité (Alba Solé and Jason Causse). No one gets burned to death by a hand dryer or cooked by microwave radiation, but the protagonist must run for his life nonetheless. He's pursued by white goods, kettles, table lamps, lawnmowers, hair dryers, vacuum cleaners, and more in a wonderful chase sequence (wonderful for viewers, hell for the guy who's almost eaten by a fridge in a dark alley). If he thought home was safe, he's in for a nasty surprise—if anything, the sentient appliances brought to life by Réalité and the team at Selected Works become even more vicious. It's an over-the-top, witty illustration of what happens when energy (or energy bills, to be more precise) gets out of control. This is where the advertised firm comes in, with perks like free EV miles and solar panels on offer. The protagonist might want to consider it, as we still don't trust that roomba that goes under the sofa at the end.
