O2
"England, Meet England"
21 August 2025
60s

Soar of the roses.
The 2025 Women's Rugby World Cup kicks off on August 22, and England, also known as the Red Roses, are well up for it. How up for it? 'Leap out of a plane' up for it. Keen to make an entrance—you sort of have to when it's a home World Cup—the likes of Sadia Kabeya, Abbie Ward, and Emily Beth Scarratt turn skydivers in an O2 spot directed by Marcus Söderlund. To the transcendent sound of 'Weightless' by Romy, the squad, dressed head to toe in white to match the clouds, falls to Earth with style. If the Queen can parachute into the Olympic Stadium, then the Red Roses can parachute into Twickenham (or Allianz Stadium Twickenham, as no one calls it). Needless to say, we doubt insurers would let Kabeya and company do this for real. Would it look or sound better than what Söderlund and his crew have served up? We doubt that, too. The immersion's only somewhat affected by Sean Bean's voiceover, which claims this is the tournament where the Red Roses and the country they represent become simpatico.
