"Why Do It?"

The why of it all.
Tyler, the Creator narrates a Nike commercial all about the why of it all. Fresh off the release of 'Don’t Tap the Glass', Tyler sinks his teeth into a script that's more like an inquiry: "Why do it?" "Why would you make it hard for yourself?" "Why chance it? "Why put it on the line?" After almost forty years of 'Just Do It' ads, it seems like someone no longer takes the brand at its word. Does that mean LeBron James, Carlos Alcaraz, Rayssa Leal, Caitlin Clark, Vinícius Júnior, and company each suffer an existential crisis? Do they ask themselves why they train so hard, work harder, and play even harder? Do they sit out directors Vania & Muggia's well-executed montage, desperate not to make a mistake or a fool of themselves? Of course not—the only to do is, well, do. As for Tyler, the mischievous so-and-so, he's got a Q that reframes the whole spot: "What if you don't?" This and Tyler's maniacal laughter set the tone for a new era of risk-takers, show-offs, and—in Nike's ideal world—brand ambassadors. We doubt the brand are interested in worrywarts, after all.
