Morrisons
"A Year in The Making"
4 November 2025
90s

It's never too early.
Morrisons upped its game in 2025 with spots like 'Fish' and 'Vegetables'—now it's delivered a stand-out Christmas ad to boot. They say athletes hit form at just the right time… maybe the same is true of supermarkets. Directed to a tee by Aaron Stoller, the ad kicks off in summer, believe it or not, when a farmer starts to hum 'Stop the Cavalry' by Jona Lewie (a dog walker thinks he's gone mad and leaves right away). The farmer's not the only one in the Christmas spirit months ahead of schedule. Bakers and fishermen are also ahead of the game, with lights, baubles, and tinsel wherever you look. You can tell production designer Sarah Jenneson had a field day/night with the tractor (a nod to the Farmer Christmas days) that blows everyone's Halloween displays out the water. Not only does the ad have charm in spades and confidence and its ideas—we like how the homeowner stops to chat with a boy dressed as a pickle—it feels real. Not over the top or cringey, just folk who work hard to ensure that when people are ready to eat, drink, and be merry, every last thing is in place. Yellow Supermarket also supports those who want to let the imagination run free a little bit at this time of year, like the bloke who mistakes a delivery driver for the big man himself. Even just for a few moments.
