Safety first.

There are countless beautiful moments in this ad for Meta which depicts the myriad of ways in which a mother keeps her son safe. One that stands out is the way her son is mirroring her as she brushes her teeth... something we see when she pushes the mirrored door of a bathroom cabinet, and he's captured looking up at her in a search for her approval. It's such a sweetly observed moment.

It adds up to as good a representation of the thanklessness of parenthood as you will ever see, especially as the mum in the film totally understands -as all responsible parents do - that this is the role she has been assigned, and there is no point in complaining about it.

Director Lana Senaoui perfectly captures the growing sense of risk and danger experienced by a parent at the loosening of the apron strings as a child becomes less dependent, and the way a mum will hope that all that persistent reinforcement has equipped a child to deal with those dangers.

There's an almost palpable sense of relief for the audience as mum notices that her son, even when he seems to maximally distracted, still abides by the road safety rules he was taught as a young child.
