All I Need

When Chris Davids, one half of electronic music duo Maribou State, revealed he'd been diagnosed with a Chiari malformation, where the lower part of the brain pushes down into the spinal canal, fans braced themselves for the worst. Not only has he recovered, however, Davids and Liam Ivory released Maribou State's third studio album, 'Hallucinating Love' in January 2025.

One of the LP's standout tracks, 'All I Need', features Andreya Triana on vocals. If Davids and Ivory bring the trip-hop, then Triana brings the heart. In the end, all three combine to imbue the song with hope—the kind that fans must have felt when news of Davids' recovery came through.

If the music was a labour of love, then so are the visuals. Centred around a couple's lives pre and post-breakup, fastidious Brazilian director Giordano Maestrelli shot it on 16mm film, turned that into two thousand three hundred still frames, then stuck the lot into a machine inspired by good old-fashioned film projectors. Many, many hours later, 'All I Need' came out just the way he and the band wanted.
