It's showtime.
As in last year's pun-based performance from Olivia Colman, Benedict Cumberbatch portrays a toxic executive aiming to continue benefitting from public indifference to climate disruption. Cumberbatch goes at it with some relish and while the satire leans towards obviousness, there's no questioning the sincerity of the intent. unfortunately, the pantomime nature of the actor's malignancy undermines the seriousness of the message. This pressure group exists to remind the public of its own complacency when it comes to pension funds. If people act in concert then they can make a difference, but it seems likely that many will be unaware that their pensions have been invested in companies with a poor track record when it comes to the environment. While Olivia Colman in last year's film and Benedict Cumberbatch in this iteration have provided entertaining parodies of those who head evil corporations, the idea that we could band together to stop them gets lost along the way. Perhaps something less showy would be more effective.
