An advertising icon returns.
During the climax of the 1986 film 'Ghostbusters', the intrepid team fighting ectoplasmic terrors are horrified when they accidentally bring the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man to life, and the giant advertising icon wreaks havoc. Those scenes readily came to mind on viewing this ad for Kellogg's which has a rebooted Cornelius the Cockerel striding through the mean streets, even though there's surprisingly little mayhem. We have Leo Burnett; director Matthijs van Heijningen; and the clever folk at Framestore to thank for thrusting the 66-year old icon back into the limelight, and it amounts to a bold move by Kellogg's as they seek to reinforce their dominant position in the breakfast cereal market. The music is courtesy of Jurassic 5's 1998 track Jayou, and it provides a vibrant counterpoint to the Godzilla-like strides of the giant rooster as he makes his way through the city in search of... well, breakfast, presumably. This ad is a bombastic statement by the cereal company, and if you're going to go down that path, you might as well go big... and they have.
