90s

Fry or die.

The Hawkins, Indiana branch of KFC has seen much better days. Ravaged by the effects of the Upside Down, it would fail an inspection on the spot. Underneath the floor, however, is a skeleton staff that uses old-school technology to keep Hawkins fed. When an order comes in by fax, no less, someone must evade military trucks and worse to deliver the goods.

This is 'Strangers Things', of course, so the protagonist rides a bicycle through the woods to the address. A regular bike, though—Hawkins is yet to be ravaged by the scourge of ebikes. Thought Vecna or the Demogorgon were bad? Imagine if Eleven and the gang had to fight dodgy lithium batteries!

Director Nick Roney does the source material justice with well-executed vehicle segments, musical cues, and a dollop of supernatural horror that proves no one is safe in this world, regardless of whether it's a tie-in commercial or a full-blown instalment. Even if the build-up to season has become rather cursed thanks to David Harbour, there are bright spots like this 90" thrill ride.
