Church
Three months after 'That's Showbiz Baby!' hit physical and digital shelves alike, Jade Thirlwall's only gone and released 'That's Showbiz Baby! The Encore'. Fans get eight, count 'em, eight more tracks as an early Christmas present—the first one, 'Church', is a borderline religious experience. Songs of Praise' needs to up its game, we reckon. Cut from the same cloth as 'Angel of My Dreams', the track sets out its stall with: "Oh, baby, pray for me like I would pray for you/Whatever gets you off until your knees are bruised." What follows is a queer pop sermon that's sexy, spiky, and spiritual in equal measure. "If you're all out of sugar then I'm the sweetest taste," she adds: "Take this holy water and wash that pretty face." If it's full-bore inclusivity, non-Christian iconography, and fashion season of the witch vibes you're after, then director Billy King and creative director Maximilian Raynor have got your covered. The two draw inspiration from all sorts of cult media, but Jade's bespoke paper outfit steals the show (and proves it is possible sustainably slay).
